East Northamptonshire Council authorises boundary changes

Members of East Northamptonshire Council have approved numerous parish boundary changes across the district.

The council consulted all householders who might be affected, together with district councillors, as well as parish and town councils. 

Full Council met on 23 April to authorise external boundary changes for 10 parishes; changes to the way two parish councils are set up and changes to internal boundaries for two parishes which also affects the district wards in those areas.

Steven North, leader of East Northamptonshire Council, said:

We’d like to thank everyone who took part in the consultation on this boundary review. Local knowledge and opinion is vital to this process and we feel these changes accurately reflect the interests and identities of our local communities.”

Subject to being agreed by the Local Government Boundary Commission for England, these changes will come into effect for the May 2015 parish council elections.

To make this happen, the council must draw up a legal document known as a re-organisation order which sets out each of the changes that are being made. This, along with maps and a copy of the committee report which set out why we agreed to make the changes are available online at www.east-northamptonshire.gov.uk/parishreview and at the council’s offices in Thrapston, Rushden and Oundle

Oundle hosts womens cycle ride

We’ve all heard of the Tour de France and some of us may even know that it is starting here in the UK this year. But did you know that this year, for the very first time, there is a Women’s Tour? And that the starting point is here in Northamptonshire in the lovely town of Oundle on 7th May?

Community Facilities Fund applications roll in

A fund to support the development of public facilities throughout the district has now closed with over 30 applications bidding for their share of £200,000.

The Community Facilities Fund (CFF) was set up by East Northamptonshire Council using money it receives from central government as new homes are created in the district. This ‘New Homes Bonus’ is based on the number of properties added to the Council Tax base each year, including new builds and empty properties being brought back into use.

Community groups, charities, schools and town and parish councils have submitted bids for grants of up to £50,000 for capital projects to enhance the local area and benefit the whole community.  Priority will be given to applications from areas with the highest impacts from new homes in the district, and also those applicants who have got other income to support their projects.  A panel of councillors will consider the awards in July 2014.

Councillor Steven North, Leader of East Northamptonshire Council, said: “We’re delighted that so many local organisations have once again applied for this funding.  The sorts of projects which we have received bids for will make a positive difference to the communities and residents of East Northamptonshire.

“Amongst the 13 projects supported last year were Rushden MIND and new equipment for service users, an accessible toilet and community space at Glapthorn Church and play equipment at Woodnewton Recreation Ground. It’s these kinds of projects which help communities grow and thrive.”
