Older Person’s Bus Pass now Online

Customers can now apply for an older person’s bus pass online by visiting the Northamptonshire County Council website www.northamptonshire.gov.uk.

The new online service has been introduced to make it easier for people to apply for their first age-related bus pass at the click of a button.
um
Customers can also renew or replace a lost, stolen or damaged older person’s bus pass using the new online system.

An older person’s bus pass allows people to travel for free on any local bus service in England from 9.30am to 11.00pm, and all day at weekends and on bank holidays.

Cllr Michael Clarke, county council cabinet member for transport, highways and environment, said: “Our new online service is a fantastic way for people to apply for an older person’s bus pass or renew or replace their existing bus pass from the comfort of their own home or on the move using their smartphone.”

The entire process can be completed online. The website will check the applicant’s eligibility by running a background verification check and the bus pass will then be sent to eligible customers by post.

Customers must have access to a computer with a webcam to use the online service or be able to upload a photo and they must have an email address.

IMG_0213

Alternatively, customers can continue to apply for an older person’s bus pass or renew their bus pass in person at any Northamptonshire library.

Also, people who can use a computer but don’t have one at home can use a PC at any library if they bring along a photo of themselves on a memory stick or camera card.

To apply or renew an older person’s bus pass online, visit buspass.northamptonshire.gov.uk.

People are eligible for an older person’s bus pass when they reach state pension age, which depends on their sex and when they were born. To find out when they are eligible, customers can visit www.gov.uk/calculate-state-pension.

All disabled-related bus pass applications and renewals will still need to be made in person at a library in order for proof of disability documents to be checked.

Stuart Townend comes to Town

Come and get your tickets at Jolly Toys and Gifts  for this fabulous evening.

Stuart is one of the leading worship songwriters of his generation: from “How Deep the Father’s Love” to “In Christ Alone”, “The Power of the Cross” to “Beautiful Saviour“, his songs are sung in churches and events around the world, and his lyrics acclaimed in the same breath as those of Watts and Wesley. His songs will feed the church for many years to come. Stuart Townend poster 2014

Stuart was brought up in West Yorkshire, and now lives in Brighton with his wife Caroline and three children – Joseph, Emma & Eden. He tours and leads worship at events around the UK and abroad, pioneering a distinctive style of acoustic folk that sets his music apart from the mainstream ‘rock worship’ style that dominates the scene.

Stuart Townend continues to write with long-time collaborator Keith Getty, but has also worked with other talented writers including Gary Sadler, Mark Edwards, Phil Baggaley and Matt Redman. An accomplished keyboard player and guitarist, he is also an established recording artist, with eight solo albums to his name to date, as well as featuring on numerous live event albums.

Staying green in East Northants – How to use your Green Bin Correctly

Recycling is by far a new concept. We have all seen the adverts, heard the slogans and lived with the boxes/bags/bins. But still there are some people who don’t appreciate the importance of recycling or understand what can and cannot be recycled. East Northamptonshire Council explains.

If East Northamptonshire stopped recycling and put all its waste into landfill, it would add nearly a million pounds to the cost of managing waste in the district (and that is just to pay the landfill tax bill). Whilst it would mean using the same trucks and staff to collect waste, the council receives assistance from Northamptonshire County Council for every ton of material that they save from landfill, in the form of recycling credits. Without these the waste collection service would need to make a bigger demand of the portion of council tax that is allocated to East Northamptonshire Council. As all public services are looking for ways to make services cheaper and more efficient, stopping recycling collections would therefore be a backward step.

East Northamptonshire Council makes no money from the recycling they collect. Any money that is made (from the selling of the end resources) is used to offset the collection, transporting and sorting costs. By collecting waste this way, not only is the country able to make the most of valuable resources, but the council can minimise the amount of money they need from the council tax payer to run collections.

East Northamptonshire Council can only collect materials that there is a market for. Many of the lower grade plastics do not undergo the recycling process well and there is little that can be done with the material. The higher grade plastics, which are usually what plastic bottles are made from, have more uses as a recycled product and so there is a higher demand for these from manufacturers.

Bedding, clothing, shoes, children’s toys, food and garden waste have been found in the recycling sorting facility. These can cause the plant big problems as clothes get wrapped around the mechanical sorting equipment, and organic materials block/cover technical sensors. If this happens, the plant must operate at a quarter of its usual speed to try and deal with all of the problems these materials cause. As a result, many sorting facilities impose a limit on the amount of material that can be included within the recycling stream, that is not recyclable. For East Northamptonshire, that limit is no more than 5%. If the percentage is higher than this the council will incur additional costs.

So what can be recycled in East Northamptonshire? Please put as many of the following as possible in your green lidded bin:

  • Aerosols (empty)Aerosol
  • Cans and tins (food, drink and pet food)
  • Cardboard (including greetings cards)Box isolated
  • Foil (clean please)

  • Glass jars and bottles
  • Paper (newspapers, magazines, catalogues, junk mail and directories)
  • Plastic bottles (please remove lids)Big bottle of water isolated
  • Plastic packaging (food trays, margarine tubs and yogurt pots)
  • Shredded paper

Your recycling bin will be left if it contains any of the following:

  • Animal bedding
  • Bedding
  • Black sacks
  • Cable ties
  • Carrier bags
  • Clothes or shoes
  • Crisp packets or sweet wrappers
  • Electrical items (such as kettles or toasters)
  • Food waste

  • Hard plastics (such as CD/DVD cases, storage crates or washing up bowls)
  • Metal items (such as saucepans, cutlery or knives)
  • Nappies or wipes
  • Plant pots.
  • Plastic toys
  • Polystyrene packing or beads
  • Shrink or bubble wrap

Rushden Lakes

We are delighted that the Rushden Lakes project was not called in for a Judicial Review in the High Court. The six week period has now expired so Nene Local, as well as the majority of people in East Northamptonshire, is very much looking forward to this derelict area being transformed. Rushden Lakes

Household Enquiry Forms – Do You Need Help?

Some of you will receive a Household Enquiry Form, as part of the changes to the voter registration system. This form is being sent from East Northamptonshire Council to those who were not re-registered automatically and are still to be invited to register.

To identify who is eligible to vote, the council needs to know who is resident at each address in the district. The Household Enquiry Form is not a registration form. Instead, it provides the council with information on who lives in the household so they can then invite occupants to register to vote, if needed.ballot voting vote box politics choice election

If you get one of these forms, you need to include the name and nationality of all those resident who are eligible to register to vote. You can register to vote if you usually live in the UK and are aged 16 or older. You must also be a British, Irish or European Union citizen, or a Commonwealth citizen who is able to remain in the UK. If anyone listed on the form is not living at your address, their name can be crossed out.

Please make sure the Household Enquiry Form is completed and returned in the pre-paid envelope as soon as possible. By law, you need to provide the information requested on the form and ensure it is correct, to avoid penalties. You should complete and return the Household Enquiry Form even if you have already registered to vote online or returned an Individual Registration Form.

If you are struggling to complete the form yourself, please consider asking a family member or friend to help you. Otherwise telephone East Northamptonshire Council on 01832 742119, but please be aware that the call will take several minutes.

Every Girl needs her Secrets…

I’m planning my big day – as you know.  The Great Thrapston Wedding Challenge is in full swing, every product, service, supplier is going to be from Thrapston, proving to any non-believers there is a whole lot going on our lovely town.

Like any bride to be, if I see a company offering a little help to look my best then I’m going to find out more.  So today I went to meet RockStar Tattoo removal.  OK before any of you say “Blimey I never knew she had a tattoo she didn’t want” they also provide Carbon Laser Skin Rejuvenation.

‘Rejuvenation?’ I hear… yes I’ll have some of that….

Here I am - awaiting treatment

Here I am – awaiting treatment

I’m no spring chicken but not bad for my age, even if I say so myself, but never one to not try and be the best I can, I went to find out more.

This form of Skin Rejuvenation reduces the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, blemishes, acne scarring, black & white heads and can make a significant difference to the overall look of your skin.

Firstly, my skin was cleansed and the area to be treated was prepared.

A thin layer of carbon paste was applied to my skin and allowed to penetrate for approx 10 -15 mins, while I chatted with Steve about how the treatment might feel. I was pretty nervous as I had no idea what to expect.

There must be a joke in her about carbon dating...

There must be a joke in her about carbon dating…

Steve covered my eyebrows, protected my hair and put on my goggles (rather like sun bed ones), then he donned his own Goggles a la ‘Video Killed the Radio Star’ and began…

Looking good....

Looking good….

Either Star Trek or The Buggles...

Either Star Trek or The Buggles…

… A Q Switch Nd YAG laser was used to heat and cause an implosion of the carbon particles (the carbon mask is removed by this process as the laser passes over each area), which leads to the following effects on the treated skin:

-Reduce fine lines and wrinkles

-Tighten dilated pores

-Reduce acne, scars and post acne discoloration (I don’t have this personally)

-Remove dead skin cells from the superficial epidermal layer

-Stimulate collagen growth

-Improves skin texture

-Restores skin integrity and radiance

-Clears pores to help reduce blackheads and whiteheads

The treatment felt quite comfortable and only a minor sensation was felt during my treatment. I felt warmth as the laser passed over each area of skin; as the carbon paste is removed the heat also stimulates collagen regrowth, which in time can result in dramatic improvements to scarring and wrinkles.  There is an odd smell at times, rather like the smokey smell of a cap gun but very mild, so an extractor fan is switched on, therefore I lay under a fluffy blanket on the treatment couch, as the extractor fan can make the room a little chilly.  I felt warm and relaxed under there!

Once the carbon paste had been removed by the laser, Steve cleansed the skin using non-perfumed, alcohol free cleansing wipes.

After the skin has been carefully dried, he then apply a simple moisturising lotion.

Steve explained how many people think that the treatment will be painful or will result in the ‘burns victim’ type reddened look you see after a chemical peel.  I am here to tell you, it honestly does not hurt.  The feeling is hard to describe, sort of a pinging sensation on the skin.  Remember the old candy of the 80’s called Space Dust? Imagine you put that on your skin and dampened it, it’s like the fizzing and popping of that.

I am a complete coward when it comes to pain and if there had been any I would not being back, and I shall book my next treatment soon!

My face looked, well just normal when I left, no redness, puffiness or anything untoward.  I am looking forward to tomorrow and the next few days to see what happens to my fine wrinkles and a couple of scars.

The set-up of the actual clinic is lovely, right here in Thrapston of course. Steve and Susie are great people with a passion for their business and a desire to help people and really make a difference both with the Tattoo Removal side of the business and the skin rejuvenation side.

The full benefits happen in the ext few days - I shall report back to you...

The full benefits happen in the ext few days – I shall report back to you…

I got Steve to take some mighty fine photos of me, all in the name of journalism which I hope you have enjoyed.
