You don’t get many elephants in Roade – but one teenager is hoping a charity curry night will help raise the money to allow her to build a sanctuary for the beasts in Malaysia.

Katie Joseph, aged 15, is among a group of 12 Elizabeth Woodville pupils heading out to the Far East next summer as part of a World Challenge expedition.

It has not yet been confirmed what their trip will involve, but it will either see them building an elephant sanctuary or a facility for the blind.

To help raise the £1,750 she needs to make the trip, Katie has organised a charity banquet evening for up to 60 people at Saffron in Castilian Street, Northampton on Monday, July 8.

She said: “It will be the trip of a lifetime, I’m really looking forward to it. My brother did a similar thing last year when he went to Tanzania and helped build a school. I’ve been inspired by him and now want to do something similar myself.

“It will be amazing to know that a group of us went over to Malaysia and built something so special. I’ve never been that far away from home before, let alone do something like build an elephant sanctuary.”

Katie will be staging the evening at Saffron with her schoolmates Megan Jones and Hannah Browning, both 15. The event will include a three course meal and a charity auction, while newly crowned Miss Northampton 2013 Kirsty Kennedy will also be in attendance.

Saffron owner Naz Islam said: “We are delighted to welcome Katie and her friends to the restaurant for the evening. It’s for a great cause and it must be really exciting for them all to be doing something so special at such a young age.

“It’s a brilliant opportunity and we are more than happy to help in any way we can.”

Tickets for the event, priced at £15, can be bought direct from Katie by calling 07814 394105 or emailing Katie
