Council Event Attracts Crowds of Home Buyers

Over 150 people attended a bespoke event to find out more about shared ownership in East Northamptonshire.

The event on 11 June was organised by East Northamptonshire Council (ENC) and showcased what properties are available in the district.

People came along to Thrapston Plaza to find out who can apply to buy on a shared ownership basis and what the mortgage and monthly payments could be.

With new developments in Higham Ferrers, Irthlingborough, Oundle, Raunds, Rushden and Thrapston, properties on offer have two, three and four bedrooms available to buy on a shared ownership basis.

Housing association staff from Orbit, Cross Keys and the Longhurst Group and mortgage advisors from TMP Sherwins and the Mortgage Bureau were on hand to answer questions and explain the process.

ENC Housing Enabling Officer, Aine Cooper, organised the event. She said: “I was pleased to welcome so many people to our event, all keen to take the first step into home ownership. As well as young couples, we met families currently renting but looking for more security and also those going through relationship breakdowns. The one stop shop allowed everyone to be seen on an individual basis.

“Having access to housing association staff increased awareness of the availability of shared ownership, with 11 new housing sites throughout the district offering shared ownership and 153 properties on offer.

“I would like to thank the housing associations and mortgage providers for giving up their time to offer specialist advice and look forward to welcoming them back to the next event later this year.”

Jennie Bell, Senior Sales Advisor at Longhurst Group, added: “We were delighted to be asked to be part of such a successful event. The event proved, through effective working partnerships with ENC, how important it is to continue to offer a choice of purchase options to those looking to gain a step on the housing ladder.”
