My Lockdown Art Book – Nene Local Magazine

Just before we went into lockdown I visited Hobbycraft, I had an inkling we might be indoors for a while.  I bought a few different craft items, as well as going to Colemans Craft Warehouse across the way for more things.  One of my purchases was a hard backed sketch pad, to fill during lock down.

I’ve been on a couple of creative retreats run by Tranquility Time, learning some zen drawing, you find out more about those on Susan’s Facebook page – Tranquility Time Retreats.

Spurred on by thing I’ve learnt I thought I’d add a little tutorial on Nene Local Magazine in case anyone wanted to have a play with their coloured pencils today.

Here is the finished work;

The 3D look is really easy to achieve;

Draw your lines in pen either in the circle or in wavy lines.

Next using a soft pencil like a 3B or softer, smudge along the lines you’ve drawn

Smudge with your fingers

Complete all the lines

Next grab your pen again and draw in arcs, in either direction;

You can do some one way and some the other…no rules!

You can add some curls if you want….

Start to colour each portion, darker at each side (Press harder) and lighter towards the middle (keep the pencil light and relaxed in your hand)

Use whatever colours you want….

Keep going till it’s all done…

Most of all – have fun!

Nanoblocks – From Japan to Thrapston

Jollys Toys & Games have sourced the latest craze from Japan – the Nanoblock range! Nanoblocks are a fabulous collection which originates from Japan and resembles a teeny, tiny version of the very famous construction brick we all know – mentioning no names! Each brick is 4 x 4 x 5mm in size and the finished models are miniature version of animals, musical instruments or landmarks. See the Jollys range here:  www.jollystoys.co.uk/nanoblock. nan4 nan3 Owner of Jollys, Charlotte Croser says “They have been popular with older boys in particular (aged 10 and up) as well as adults. When finished they sit neatly on a shelf or window sill to create a little display, but there’s also the opportunity to make up models of your own with a collection of sets.” If you’d like to know more about Nanoblocks then drop into Jollys Toys & Games which is on Thrapston High Street, next door to Bletsoe’s offices. nan1 nan2
